This jacket is executed through the ancient discipline of vegetable/plant pigment printing. Grounded in GOTS-certified organic cotton, the fabric serves as a modern manuscript for Raja Ravi Varma’s 1906 lithographic masterpiece, Jatayu Vadh. The printing process is an alchemical extraction of the earth: reds derived from madder roots (Rubia tinctorum) to symbolize the martyr’s blood, and blacks fermented from iron rust and jaggery to depict the shadow of Ravana. By transferring this mythological moment onto organic canvas using plant-based pastes, turning the garment into a mobile fresco that honors the anthropological link between storytelling, divinity, and the natural world.
